I've been taking images since I was a child, from a simple 110 camera given to me by my grandfather I was always interested in photography.
After High School I went on to study A level Photography and taught basics to the GCSE students.
After working in various Pro Labs in the North of England, I gained the, now underused, skills of fine art, reversal and commercial hand printing. This opened up the contact with Professional Photographers both who used the labs and the associated studios, I started to assist these photographers, for free at first, then on a professional basis, this commercial work (pack shots, corporate and brochure) did give me the sound basic studio and location knowledge for further in my career. I left the lab world on a chance meeting with a student from a degree course, I called the college direct and as they had already started, was pleased with a firm offer based on my portfolio.
I then moved to Falmouth, Cornwall for three fantastic years, where I developed my skills and found a love for people photography, first doing portraits, then fashion stories and creative lighting. I had a real passion, and still do, for the fashion side of photography. This was helped by the work experience gained with Fashion Photographer Bernthardt von Sprekelsen, a fantastic inspiration and mentor for my work at the time. I then was very lucky to work as first assistant for the renowned creative photographer Rankin, who again was a great influence on my personal and professional work. I have recently found another avenue of photography that I love, which becomes a spin off from the Fashion work I have done, Music. I love music anyway, so this was always an easy transition, and both the Live gigs and the studio photography attracts me to this fascinating corner of photography. I honestly believe that a specialist shouldn't be pigeon holed, a good photographer will photograph well most subjects, I think you develop your skills better the more variety of work you produce, I'm still young(ish) I have no plans to ever stop taking images that appeal to me, I'll still be shooting at 90!! Guess that still makes me quite the rookie!
